The École Communautaire of Coupeau is the first school project, which has been completely rebuilt and designed with the support of children's emergency donors. For Kindernothilfe the reconstruction of rural schools in the mountainous areas south west of the Haitian capital, destroyed by the earthquake of January 12th, is one of the hardest logistic challenges within the humanitarian aid campaign of KNH in this Caribbean country.
The five months gone by after one of the worst natural disasters in the history of mankind, Haiti's earthquake of January 12th 2010, which left over 220,000 dead, have meant for Kindernothilfe new challenges every day and forced learning processes. In Port-au-Prince, the Chilean journalist Nélida Pohl talked with Jürgen Schübelin, who took charge for a year of the Humanitarian Campaign of Kindernothilfe in Haiti, and the coordination of the reconstruction of the destroyed projects' infrastructure.
Three months after the deadly earthquake that razed over Haiti on January 12th, which killed over 220,000 people, Kindernothilfe has completed the first stage of emergency relief, and KNH-Haití is now committed head on with the reconstruction of schools and community spaces leveled by the earthquake. The first one of these reconstruction projects is the community school at Coupeau.
