Monsoon rains in early February have caused massive floods in Indonesia's capital Jakarta. At least 80 people died, approximately 420,000 lost their homes. In cooperation with „Kampus Diakoneia Modern" (KDM), Kindernothilfe allocates urgently required food, drinking water and relief items.

Immediately after flooding, KDM started to provide cooked food at seven contact points in Jakarta. Volunteers are preparing food at KDM's children's village kitchen. All contact points are located close to slums of Jakarta. On February 6, 2007 Kindernothilfe program coordinator Christian Jung reached Jakarta to support the emergency activities.

Since February 6, 2007 Kindernothilfe supports the preparation of cooked food and its allocation. As from February 12, 2007 the follow-up project is financed by means of the Federal Foreign Office.

Currently, KDM prepares 4,000 meals per day. The project is accompanied by the allocation of drinking water. For this purpose 19-litre water containers for 520 families are daily filled. In addition, emergency relief items like mattresses and hygiene kits are distributed to 520 families.
