(Duisburg/ Jakarta, 06.02.2007) In cooperation with the indonesian Partner Organisation KDM (Kampus Diakoneia Modern), Kindernothilfe is providing blankets, food and potable water to the refugees in Jakarta since the early morning hours. In addition, four tents have been donated for the refugee camp. The emergency aid concentrates on the flooded slum areas in Jakarta.
The floodings are especially dangerous for small children. Diarrhea and the spreading of the Dengue-Fever would crucially affect the youngest children. The provision of potable water, good hygenic conditions and moscito-nets are now very important. Whereever possible, Kindernothilfe is supporting the victims of the inundation with mobile toilets. With two inflatable dinghies the rescue workers also reached families, who(se houses) were cut off by the floods. Kindernothilfe provided 30.000 Euro in order to cater for the immediate needs of the victims and is now calling for additional donations.
