Facts and Figures about Child Labour and the work of Kindernothilfe to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
"Every child has the right of protection from commercial and sexual exploitation", this is the basic principle of the association "ECPAT Deutschland". The association is a nation-wide network of 28 institutions and groups. It is committed to ensuring the implementation of the UN-Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as to pointing out the causes of exploitation and demanding that all violations are prosecuted. Kindernothilfe is a member, working particularly at a political level to achieve greater protection for children.
Thousands of children are fighting in wars and armed conflicts around the world. This includes both girls and boys in Latin America, Africa and Asia and also in Europe. The largest number of child soldiers, however, are in Africa. According to UN estimates there are over 100.000, particularly in Uganda, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Sudan. Kindernothilfe is a member of the alliance "Deutsche Koordination Kindersoldaten", the German branch of the International Coalition to stop the Use of Child Soldiers. It also supports projects for former child soldiers.
Eighty percent of all people with disabilities live in developing countries. And in these countries there is a shortage of doctors, clinics, and rehabilitation facilities. Children and young people with disabilities frequently live in poverty. Many suffer from social exclusion and prejudices. Kindernothilfe supports girls and boys with disabilities and works to have people with disabilities accepted in the society.
