All projects and programmes supported by Kindernothilfe use a Child Rights Approach to reach the common main objective: Vulnerable and marginalized children get access to sustainable opportunities to grow and to develop their full potential. We are committed to fight for the fulfillment of all child rights: the rights to provision, the rights to protection and the rights to participation.

Community Development enables communities to secure adequate sustainable livelihood for all community members through their own resources counting on the members' own initiative and mutual help. The expansion of people's economic, social and political spheres of action is an integral part. Success of Community Development is shown by the extent to which changes have been achieved in the motivation, the abilities and the social relationships of the people.
The Self-Help Approach enables the most vulnerable women and children within a community to acquire adequate sustainable economic and social living conditions as well as political participation by unleashing and developing their individual potentials in groups and networks.
Focus of both, Community Development and Self-Help Approach is the formation and strengthening of civil society structures on community level and thus they produce synergy effects when combined.
Social work and street work focus on children at risk (e.g. street children, working children, child soldiers, etc.) and respond to the violation of their rights. Emphasis is put on reintegration whereby individual solutions are developed in the best interest of the child.
Based on our own positive experience we promote networking to link community structures and civil society organisations on regional and national level in various development sectors in order to produce synergy effects and provide a conducive environment for exchange, learning and concerted action. Focused networking is an essential precondition for successful advocacy, our strategy to address duty bearers in all political structures and institutions. It is aimed at propagating the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child for the creation of general frameworks which safeguard these rights in their country.
We use a capacity development strategy to systematically strengthen the local partner organisations' capacity on professional, programmatic, organisational and strategic level.
Development education: To support the development efforts of the partner organisations, we sensitize the European public on development issues with a special focus on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and motivate people to actively engage in political campaigns.
In all programmes and projects the combat against HIV/AIDS and for gender equality are mainstreamed components.
Methods
Project Cycle Management
We expect and support our partners to use project cycle management for all their projects and programmes. Our staff monitors and evaluates processes through regular partner, project and programme visits.
Participation
Partners are encouraged to use various participatory methods such as: participatory rural/urban appraisals, child rights programming, stakeholder analyses, participatory self-monitoring and self-evaluation, amongst others.
Facilitation
We are convinced that successful, sustainable and effective programmes and projects can only be implemented when they are deeply rooted in the concerned communities and owned by the beneficiaries. Our role in this process is to facilitate learning processes in the local partner organisations with regard to organisational development, relevant topics like child rights, appropriate strategies and methodologies, and lobby and advocacy work. Partners are in that way capacitated to function as strong change agents in their civil societies.
On a day-to-day basis, we support the partners in issues regarding programme and project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
