Hundreds of thousands in Sri Lanka caught in crossfire

06.02.2009 - Berlin, 3rd February 2009. The alliance Entwicklung hilft is calling for "escape corridors", free access to the trapped civilians, and the immediate dispatch of international observers to northern Sri Lanka. According to local partner organisations, 300,000 people are currently trapped on an area of 250 square kilometres. The Sri Lankan army and Tamil rebels are engaged in intense fighting for this region. In less than two days, several hundred civilians have been killed, and countless others injured. more

Kindernothilfe submitted a Joint NGO Submission on child rights to Human Rights Council

28.11.2008 - (Duisburg, 28. November 2008) Germany will be evaluated by the Human Rights Council on 2 February 2009 within the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Kindernothilfe submitted a Joint NGO Submission on child rights focussing on the reservations to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the effects on children. Kindernothilfe contributes to publication of "The National Child Participation Guide for Uganda"

28.11.2008 - With the financial assistance from Kindernothilfe and together with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and UNICEF, the Uganda Child Rights NGO Network has developed 'The National Child Participation Guide for Uganda'. This guide is specifically designed for those working at institutions/organizations including schools and health care providers; legal institutions; probation and welfare institutions; local councils; Non Governmental Organisations; Community-Based Organisations and the media. It is intended to facilitate meaningful participation of children from family through to national and international levels. more

Stand up against poverty/ Kindernothilfe takes part

17.10.2008 - (Duisburg, 17.10.2008) STAND UP and TAKE ACTION is the third annual Stand Up mobilization coordinated by the Millennium Campaign and the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) to coincide with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17. Kindernothilfe and several of its partner organizations are taking part in the event. more

28.08.2008 - This year again there will be a world-wide Stand Up event on the International Day of Poverty Eradication, on 17 October. The Stand Up is organised by the UN Millennium Campaign. The activity day under the motto "Stand up and Speak out" will be held across the world from 17 to 19 October. more

Communications Procedure: Committee on the Rights of the Child endorses campaign

13.06.2008 - Kindernothilfe is part of the Working Group for the communications procedure under the NGO Group for the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The group organized a side event on 10 June during the 8th session of the Human Rights Council with the outcome that the Committee on the Rights of the Child endorses the campaign. more

Human Rights Council: Call to establish an open-ended Working Group

09.06.2008 - (Duisburg, June 2008) Kindernothilfe has submitted together with six international NGOs a joint written statement to the eight session of the Human Rights Council calling on the Council to establish an open-ended Working Group of States to draft an Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child for the creation of a communications procedure under the Convention. more

Child Soldiers Global Report: International Efforts Still Failing Child Soldiers

UN Special Representative on Violence Against Children: Kindernothilfe raises concerns

05.05.2008 - Last year Kindernothilfe signed the petition calling for the appointment of the Special Representative on Violence Against Children (SRSG) together with more than 1.000 organisations worldwide. 183 UN Member States endorsed the call, too, by a Resolution of the General Assembly. In a letter directed to the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Kindernothilfe welcomes the progress towards the appointment of the Special Representative and raises some concerns regarding the further process. more
