What we do
Varitey of assistance
We focus on financing projects which promote the sustainable development of children and young people, awaken their potential and improve their chances in life. This presupposes great dependability and obligations which usually lead to long term commitments. Each local situation determines which form of assistance is appropriate.

- They contribute to children and young people being well nourished, receiving medical care and having adequate clothing. They promote their physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual development.
- In the context of all education based on Christian principles, they enable children and young people to experience affection and recognition. They convey acceptance and security and let them experience God's love in word and deed.
Basic education
- They impart basic education to as many children as possible and give young people the opportunity to receive vocational training. Apart from fighting poverty, better education also encourages family planning. Educational programmes therefore have a direct influence upon overpopulation, at present one of the largest obstacles to development.

- They encourage and enable children and young people to actively support the ongoing development of the social order of their communities and societies.
- They perceive children not just as being at the receiving end of care. Within the context of their own culture they let children and young people take part in organising their lives and their education. They also support children in the struggle for their rights. Bearing in mind the needs of children and young people, we are increasingly concentrating on such measures, projects and programmes.
Health
- which actively involve the families and social situation of the children and young people. These include measures in preventive health care and securing their food supply.
Community based work
- which promote rural development, are related to the local community and are geared towards changing unjust struc-tures at the local level.

- which particularly apply to children in extremely difficult situations in life: for example street children, sexually abused children, AIDS orphans, and children affected by wars and natural disasters.
Disabled and handicapped
- which in the work with disabled and handicapped children focus on early recognition and rehabilitation as well as on their integration into family and society.
Girls and women
- which increasingly take into account the rights of disadvantaged girls and women, strengthening their position in their respective society and promoting equal opportunities.
Population groups
- which put particular emphasis upon working for the rights and chances in life of disadvantaged population groups (for example Adivasis in India and Indigenas in Latin America).
- Increasingly we intend to strengthen our engagement in Africa, which is in danger of becoming the "forgotten continent".
Disaster relief
We are not a disaster relief organisation. In emergencies we usually refer to organisations which specialise in that field. Only in exceptional cases do we give disaster assistance basically in those cases when a disaster strikes a country where we are already active and our existing partners there work out an aid plan. We put our emphasis on follow up help, that is to say, long term reconstruction work, which starts when public interest and the immediate catastrophe relief have abated
