The Millennium Development Goal „Achieve universial primary education" is in danger. Throughout the world 80 million girls and boys still do not got to school, because the rich industrial states do not keep their promises to the developing countries. Every year about 16 million dollars are missing to put to school in reality every child required to attend school. The Global Campaign for Education marked the efforts of the Federal Government of Germany just with a D.
The member states of the UN have targeted eight Development Goals in 2000. They should be reached by 2015 to make better the lives of persons in developing countries. At the Half-time, on 07-07-07, the second goal „achieve universial pirmary education" will only by achieved by great exertion of force. In southern Africa, southeastern and western Aisa, there are barely any chances, to make school attendance possible for all children by 2015, according to the UN.Federal Government of Germany: Rank 14 of 22 industrial states
The Federal Government of Germany is to be found far behind other industrial states concerning the promotion of education in developing countries. According to a survey by Global Campaign for Education Germany ist on rank 14 among 22 member states of OECD. Measured by its economic capacity the federal governement has to spend 472 million euros more development aid on education than it does now.
Donor states do not keep their promises
Imke Häusler, expert on education of Kindernothilfe, called the financing of the „Fast Track Initiative" „especially shameful". Therein the poor conutries are obligated to present national plans of education and to pay for 80 percent of the costs. As a countermove the industrial states promised to fund the missing 20 percent. While up to 2007 29 developing countries have been presenting such planes, the donor states have not kept their promise. 750 million dollars are missing only in 2007.
Kindernothilfe spends 13,2 millions for education
For Kindernothilfe education and on-the-job training rank high. In 2006 the organisation spended 13,2 million euros o 30,6 percent of its budget on these issues. Kindernothilfe is a member ot the German branch of Global Campaign for Education."
