Action Alliance against Aids

The effects of HIV/Aids are devastating - each day 1,400 girls and boys die of aids. The pandemic has made around 15 million children orphans. As a member of the Action Alliance against Aids, Kindernothilfe calls on governments and international organisations to take the necessary steps to halt the spread of this epidemic.

Grouped together in the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance, churches and organisations attached to churches are campaigning to break the silence about aids. The German members of this alliance have come together to found the "Action Alliance against Aids". Under the motto "life is a human right" the alliance calls on governments to apply the appropriate measures to combat aids and for everyone to have access to HIV-treatment. Kindernothilfe is a member of this alliance together with 370 church-communities, action groups, aid-organisations and churches.

Kindernothilfe demands:

The pharmaceutical industry must develop drugs suitable for children. These must be sold in poor countries at the production prices.
The German government must exert pressure at international level to push for people in poor countries to have access to vital medicine.
The German government must provide an appropriate sum of money for prevention work and for the care of the infected - at least 250 million Euros per year.
The German government must also take steps to achieve debt-cancellation so that the countries affected have more money at their disposal to combat aids.
