[GENEVA, Friday 17 June 2011] The UN Human Rights Council has adopted the final draft Optional Protocol on a communications procedure for children's rights violations crafted by an intergovernmental working group over ten days in December 2010 and February 2011. The new protocol will enable the Committee on the Rights of the Child to examine communications from children and their representatives alleging violations of their rights.

For Kindernothilfe, 2010 was the year of three large-scale disaster relief operations in Haiti, Chile and Pakistan. At the same time, we extended our areas of development co-operation and now provide support to 655,793 children and youngsters in 958 projects in 29 countries. The board of directors look back over a year packed with challenges.

20 years after the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), on the one hand, and ten years after the launch of the debt relief campaign, on the other hand, the work of Kindernothilfe within the context of Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers and the rights of the child were supposed to be examined and recorded.
