TransFair: Delicious and fairly traded
Since 1995 Kindernothilfe has been a member of the organisation TransFair, an association promoting fair trade with the third world.
The TransFair Stamp.
Small deprived coffee growers are paid prices which not only provide more than a living wage but also constitute long term investments.
With the surplus:
- Schools are built.
- Stores are equipped.
- Health care is improved.
Today over 25,000 stores offer coffee carrying the TransFair stamp.
Fairly traded orange-juice
In Brazil, Kindernothilfe together with its local partner, campaign for the rights of children, such as education and protection from exploitative work.
So that children can develop perspectives to lead independent lives, working conditions for families of small farmers and fruit growers have to be improved. Especially families who work as seasonal workers picking oranges need better conditions. This means above all just wages so that they can care for themselves and their families. The orange juice "Fitesse" with the TransFair stamp guarantees that the orange pickers are paid a just wage and that the juice is produced ecologically and without child labour.
Combining Forces
The surplus proceeds are allocated directly into social programmes. In Alto Paraná there is now a kindergarten for 60 children and the health care centre has also been renovated. Kindernothilfe considers its joint project with TransFair, Brot für die Welt and the Swiss aid organisation HEKS as a great opportunity for people to directly improve the living conditions of producers through their own purchasing behaviour.
