The École Communautaire of Coupeau is the first school project, which has been completely rebuilt and designed with the support of children's emergency donors. HABITERRA released - along with Kindernothilfe - an unusual statement of accounts, which makes the story of the rebuilding of the Coupeau School from the moment the first planning meetings with children, parents and community members took place, painstakingly pass in review - with all its ups and downs.

In the Bolivian mining city of Potosí and the surrounding mining centres more than 6.500 children have to work in unbearable conditions. They perform very hard jobs underground – carrying material, loading tippers or engraving holes for explosives, working up to 10 hours a day. To support these children, Kindernothilfe sponsors three projects in the city, situated at 4000 meters above sea level, supporting 800 girls and boys and their families.

Going to school, romping around, playing with other children or making music – that is childhood. But what is normal for some children is often impossible for disabled children. Living in the slums of the Brazilian city of Recife, situated in the northeast of Brazil, these children face many problems. As it is the case in many poor areas parents are often ashamed of their disabled children and hide them. Since 1988 parents of disabled girls and boys have been involved in the work of the “Centro de Reabilitação e Valorização da Criança” (CERVAC). Supported by Kindernothilfe, the centre provides help for disabled children.

At the age of 13, Evelyn was pulled into a van and kidnapped before the eyes of her helpless little sister. Evelyn experienced terrible things. She was threatened and forced to prostitute herself by the kidnappers. In the slums of Ventanilla, a Peruvian port city, Evelyn’s case is no exception. A large number of children suffer from violence and abuse. Furthermore, the girls and boys are severely malnourished and infectious diseases are rife.
Kindernothilfe and the organization “Kusi Warma” support these children and lobby for their rights.
